Apr 08, 2013 (newstodate): A new amendment to the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Russia and Finland will take liberalization of air traffic between Europe and Russia to new heights.
With the latest amendments, provisions have now been made for entry of a second carrier from each side to operate flights between Helsinki and Moscow, with the notion of "national carrier" to be scrapped.
Already in 2011, the two parties agreed that a carrier operating air services between Russia and Finland does not need to be Finnish-owned.
It is now only required that the airline is established in Finland and has an Operating Licence and AOC issued in accordance with local regulations.
According to Rosaviatsia, the potential new airlines on the route will be offered seven frequencies per week on the Moscow - Helsinki route effective from November 28, 2013.
14 weekly flights from each side are currently allowed.
