May 1, 2013 (newstodate): Seattle may again become a destination with online, non-stop flights from Copenhagen, Denmark.
If realized, Emirates may use Copenhagen Airport as an en-route point between Dubai and Seattle as hinted at by Emirates' outgoing vice-chairman of the Board, Maurice Flanagan in a radio interview with a Dubai-based station.
Emirates already benefits from its traffic rights at Copenhagen Airport by routing its weekly Emirates SkyCargo Boeing 777F freighter Via Copenhagen for technical purposes on flights between Dubai and Chicago since from March 3, 2013.
Emirates also enjoys full freedom to call at any US destination without limitation on frequencies or capacity.
After 43 years of unbroken services as the only European carrier providing direct flights from Europe to Seattle on the US west coast, SAS closed down operations on its Copenhagen-Seattle route from July 31, 2009.
According to industry sources, SAS has however also aired interest in reviving the route to Seattle if sufficient long-haul aircraft capacity becomes available.
