Jun 12, 2013 (newstodate): Estonian Air seems to be on the road towards stabilization after a challenging period.
According to the latest statistics, the carrier's passenger volumes are now roughly at the same level as in 2011, carrying 52,755 passengers in May 2013 and a total of 220,961 passengers during January-May 2013.
This means that the decline in passenger volumes roughly equals the shortfall of transit passengers due to the changed strategy by Estonian Air that now has its focus on point-to-point traffic replacing the earlier hub-strategy with extensive transit traffic through Tallinn Airport.
Another sign of recovery may also be the recall of the current crisis-managing chairman of Estonian Air's supervisory board installed during the heyday of the crisis period, to be replaced by a more reclined state-appointed supervisor representing the state ownership.
Under its ongoing restructuring process, Estonian Air has cut back its route network to comprise only 10 destinations - Stockholm, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Brussels, Oslo, Moscow, St Petersburg, Kiev, Vilnius, Trondheim and seasonal to Paris and Nice.
