Jun 14, 2013 (newstodate): First European carrier to introduce the Boeing 787 in commercial service, the Polish carrier LOT will end up with a fleet of eight Dreamliner aircraft by 2014, three of which have already been delivered.
But - the carrier will reportedly put two of these new deliveries up for lease, together with a total of 15 of its current total of 30 Embraer regional aircraft.
The reason is simple: the state-owned carrier is in deep financial troubles and is planning to rein in on its network and volume of frequencies requiring less aircraft to serve the routes.
Hopes are to return to profitability by 2015 after series of staff cuts, fleet reduction and other measures to cut costs. After that, fresh efforts will be made to privatize the airport.
