Jul 26, 2013 (newstodate): At its latest meeting in July 2013, the Aeroflot Board has confirmed the decision to end all operations by freighter aircraft.
The Board concluded that would be inappropriate to continue the use of the existing loss-making cargo aircraft fleet.
On October 26, 2005, Aeroflot set up Aeroflot-Cargo as a separate entity with a fleet of three ex-Finnair MD-11 converted freighters and also operating a Boeing 737-300F during a brief period.
This company was, however, declared bankrupt in June 2009, and the aircraft were transferred to Aeroflot and the cargo activities incorporated within the airline.
Aeroflot is Russia's second-largest cargo carrier in volumes, even without the capacity of the freighter fleet.
