Aug 20, 2013 (newstodate): Finland is taking the lead in the implementation of IATA's e-freight concept.
Driving the process in Finland is the country's national carrier Finnair, and on the agenda now is the roll-out of the electronic AWB throughout Finnair Cargo's route net.
-Four Finnair Cargo stations are fully e-AWB capable, namely Stockholm, Helsinki, Hong Kong and Singapore, and the target is to have more than 50 percent of the stations up and running before the end of 2013, says Petteri Helen, Finnair Cargo Manager E-solutions, Global Mail and Commercial Partners.
-A significant part of this process is involving customers, forwarders, representatives from cargo terminals and all other parties in how to implement e-freight including e-AWB and secure the necessary IT capabilities to handling of the new procedures.
-The center of gravity in Finnair and Finnair Cargo's network is the Asian traffic, and much effort is therefore invested in getting this e-freight process on tracks here, but Central Europe is also to be targeted in the time ahead, says Mr Helen.
According to IATA, Finland is way ahead in its e-freight implementation, compared to the other Nordic countries.
