Sep 04, 2013 (newstodate): Icelandair continues to pin its future on the Boeing 757-200 aircraft as its workhorse.
In the fleet now are 19 Boeing 757 passenger aircraft plus four Boeing 757-200F freighters.
But to realize the carrier's ambitious plans for the coming year, another three Boeing 757-200 aircraft will be added to the fleet in 2014, the company says.
Earlier in 2013, Icelandair said that it expects the Boeing 757 aircraft to remain in the fleet for another 10 years.
In 2013 the carrier plans to carry 2.3 mio passengers, rising to 2.6 in 2014 after a 18 percent increase in production which comprises more frequencies on existing routes and the addition of three new destinations Edmonton, Vancouver and Geneva from March 26, May 13 and May 24, 2013, respectively, with the first route planned for year-round services and the latter two as seasonal routes in 2014.
