Sep 12, 2013 (newstodate): Russia's ailing airport in the Altai Region, Biysk Airport will be modernized and reconstructed.
Ownership of the airport has now been taken on by the state, and after updating an existing four-year old preliminary plan for reconstruction, the work will be set in motion, aiming at a reopening for commercial operations from 2016.
In the plans is the construction of a new 1,700m runway replacing the existing 1,500m runway, modernization of the existing passenger terminal, construction of new maintenance facilities and a fueling station as well as other infrastructure.
Plans are to develop the airport in a public-private partnership.
