Jan 08, 2014 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport reports a significant drop in cargo volumes in 2013.
A total of 20,941 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, down 12.5 percent, y-o-y.
Air cargo volume handled were 19,321 tonnes, down 14 percent, while mail volumes at 1,620 tonnes increased by 12.7 percent, y-o-y.
In December 2013, volumes handled were 24.6 percent, to 1,477 tonnes including 1,287 tonnes of cargo and 190 tonnes of mail.
Besides the scaling down of the airport's home carrier Estonian Air's flights and routes, another significant operator at the airport, ULS Logistics has also significantly reduced its freighter operations from Istanbul to Tallinn carrying shipments destined for the Russian market.
In earlier peak seasons, ULS normally operated up to 35-40 monthly freighters from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Tallinn Airport.
