Dec 13, 2013 (newstodate): The Faroe Island's Atlantic Airways had landed a contract with Norway's Statoil in connection with the new search for oil and gas in the North Atlantic region.
Under the contract, Atlantic Airways will provide one helicopter as well as capacity on its existing routes operated with A319 aircraft.
To fulfill the contract, the carrier will acquire one new AW139 to helicopter to be based at Vagar Airport.
The exploration project will start by Q2, 2014, and is expected to run for up to eight months.
