Jan 16, 2014 (newstodate): Long on the sales shelf, the Icelandic cargo carrier Bluebird Cargo has finally found new owners.
The Icelandic investment group Haru Holding has set up a new company, BB Holding owned 50/50 with Steinn Logi Bjornsson, with the purpose of buying Bluebird Cargo from two Icelandic banks that are also behind the Icelandair Group.
The new owners have appointed Steinn Logi Bjornsson, formerly serving as Icelandair SVP Marketing & Sales, as the new Chairman of the Board.
Haru Holding is also the owner of another large Icelandic ACMI carrier, Air Atlanta, but Bluebird Cargo will continue operating as an independent carrier.
Bluebird Cargo was set up in 2000, managed and co-owned by Thor Kjartansson together with other Icelandic investors.
In February 2005 the carrier was sold to the Icelandair Group, but in February 2011 Icelandair decided to divest of Bluebird Cargo that was placed with the two Icelandic banks pending a future sale, now completed.
With a fleet of five Boeing 737 freighter aircraft, Bluebird Cargo with Skuli Skulasson as managing director is mainly operating for integrators as well as offering ACMI services.
