Dec 01, 2014 (newstodate): The largest airport in the region, Moscow Domodedovo Airport saw its cargo volumes down during the first 10 months of this year.
A total of 153,000 tonnes of cargo was handled, a decline by 5.7 percent, y-o-y.
This is still below Russia's over-all drop by 7.9 percent and the decline in volumes by 9.9 percent of Moscow Air Hub that comprises also Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport and Moscow Vnukovo Airport.
-The decrease of cargo volumes in general results from factors including the instability of currency rates, the declining oil prices, and the serious political instability in the world, says Irina Kumina, Moscow Domodedovo Airport PR Manager.
-Due to these factors, carriers start to use cheaper ways of cargo transportation, such as trucking and water carriage.
-According to statistics, the cargo traffic is often the first to respond to market fluctuations as the demand for consumer goods, the main segment, is directly related to the economical environment in the world, as can be seen from date on the crisis of 2008/2009, says Ms Kumina.
Passenger volumes, however, continued to soar at the airport that noted a by 7.9 percent, y-o-y, to 28.69 mio passengers in January-October 2014.
The volume of flights was also up by 6.5 percent, y-o-y, to 236,374 over the period.
