Dec 05, 2014 (newstodate): The political unrest over Russia during the Ukrainian crisis has made its mark on the performance of Latvia's airBaltic - but no so much as feared..
-Frankly, I expected the impact from the changes in the Russian market to develop much deeper than was actually the case, says Martin Gauss, airBaltic President and CEO.
-While the volume of transfer traffic to and from Russia via our hub at Riga has indeed diminished, the point-to-point traffic has increased. And after all, revenues from point-to-point traffic is higher, compared to the transfer traffic revenues. So all in all, the Russian market has gained in importance for us, even during these unruly times.
-One proof of this is that we are now operating into all three Moscow airports, adding five weekly flights from Riga to Moscow Vnukovo Airport in a cooperation with Transaero from this winter, while we are already serving Moscow Sheremetyevo and Moscow Domodedovo, says Mr Gauss.
