Mar 05, 2014 (newstodate): The legal row over WOW Air's request for slots at Iceland's Keflavik Airport has rounded another corner.
On February 28, 2014, the Icelandic Competition Appeals Committee ruled that Slots Coordination at Keflavik International Airport is conducted by an independent Coordinator and Isavia thus does not have legal authority to intervene.
The committee therefore decreed that the ruling of the Icelandic Competition Authority of 1. November 2013 that Isavia is to intervene in the work of the airport's Slots Coordinator be rescinded.
As WOW Air was not granted the slot times it had applied for, the carrier appealed to the Icelandic Competition Authority that ruled that Keflavik's operator, Isavia, had to provide the requested slots during the fully booked peak hours.
Isavia, next, took the issue to the Competition Appeals Committee based on the fact that Slots Coordination is conducted by an independent Coordinator and Isavia does not have legal authority to intervene - and this has thus now been confirmed, bringing WOW Air back to square one.
And WOW Air has consequently shelved its plans for launch of services to Boston, in the USA from this spring.
