Apr 29, 2014 (newstodate): As a further step in the realization of its long-term business strategy, Etihad Airways has set up the Etihad Aviation Group.
The group will comprise Etihad and its equity-partners, airlines where Etihad holds a stake including airberlin, Air Seychelles, Virgin Australia,
Aer Lingus, Air Serbia and Jet Airways as well as Darwin Airlines, the core of the future Etihad Regional.
Etihad Aviation Group will have James Hogan as Group President and CEO also serving as Etihad Airways' president and chief executive officer, but management of the Group and Etihad Airways will be kept separately.
Rick Allen, formerly of Air Canada, has been appointed Etihad Aviation Group COO with responsibility for Marketing, Sales, Operations, Technical, Cargo, Flight Operations, Guest Services, Guest Experience, and Safety
and Quality.
Etihad has thus demonstrated that it sees its future not with any existing airline alliance, but as an independent and growing Group entity.
