Jun 05, 2014 (newstodate): Plans for start of Boeing 747 freighter services from Norway's Lakselv Banak Airport in the northern part of Norway as well as combined cargo/passenger flights from Oslo Gardermoen Airport are advancing despite some temporary delays.
Viking International Airlines will eventually place up to five Boeing 747 aircraft in Norway to offer flights to destinations in North America and Asia, with the first aircraft, an all-cargo aircraft, to arrive in Norway for certification already in June this year, aiming at launch of services from September 2014.
-We had hoped to see the aircraft already early this month but we are admittedly seeing snags in the process mainly due to the loads of paper work involved before the first aircraft can actually land in Oslo, says Ragnvald Brobakken, Aeroconsult Norway, consultant to the project as well as professionally working together with John Kunkel - ex-Atlas Air Chief Pilot, and a driving force in the project.
-These are, however, only temporary challenges that are being overcome one by one, and by next week I will probably be able to announcing a date in June for the presentation at Oslo Gardermoen Airport.
-After the opening of the first phase of operations with the all-freighter aircraft, steps are next taken to open up traffic with Boeing 747 Combi aircraft on flights between Oslo, Banak, and destinations in Asia as well as North America, first of all Miami, says Mr Brobakken.
