Aug 11, 2014 (newstodate): The Iranian carrier Mahan Air is building up its fleet of Airbus A340 aircraft.
Already operating two ex-Lufthansa Airbus A340-300 aircraft, the carrier added one ex-Gulf Air Airbus A340-300 earlier in August, and is now also reportedly taking in a fourth similar aircraft formerly operated by the Pakistani carrier AirBlue and to be acquired by Kyrgyzstan's Manas Airways that will then place it on a lease contract with Mahan Air.
So far, little has emerged about Mahan Air's plans behind this intense increase in the long-haul aircraft fleet that also comprises two Boeing 737-300 Combi aircraft as well as 20 Airbus A300 and 11 Airbus A310-300 aircraft.
Currently serving more than 50 destinations, domestic and international combined, Mahan Air is to add Beijing as its latest new international destination from October 26, 2014 - but this route will be operated with Airbus A310 aircraft.
