Nov 09, 2015 (newstodate): Not unexpectedly, the EU ruling on legality of state to Estonian Air turned out negatively for the carrier that has now folded its wings after its last flight on November 7, 2015, operated from Copenhagen to Tallinn.
The Estonian state had prepared for the emergency, however, by setting up Nordic Aviation Group that is now securing most of the flights earlier provided by Estonian Air.
Nordic Aviation Group has thus wet-leased aircraft from BMI, Trade Air, NextJet and Carpatair and is now operating traffic based on the AOC of Adria Airways that also provides the commercial platform and ticketing system on an interim basis until a planned new Estonian carrier with an own AOC can take over responsibilities.
As of yesterday, Nordic Aviation Group offers flights from Tallinn to Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen Oslo, Stockholm, Kiev, Trondheim, and Vilnius, and plans are to add also flights to Munich from December 19, 2015.
Flights on Estonian Air's former routes to Moscow and St Petersburg are, however, suspended as they will require renegotiation of traffic rights.
