Nov 16, 2015 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo seems to have settled comfortably with its freighter flights through Norway's Stavanger Airport.
The carrier first flew into Stavanger Airport on November 8, 2014, coming in from Houston with a weekly Boeing 777F aircraft continuing to Frankfurt, adding Norwegian export shipments transferring to other destinations on the carrier's extensive network.
Driving the route is the need for fast deliveries of shipments and equipment between two of the world's important centers for oil and gas industries, but the service has obviously also succeeded in getting some grip on Norway's exporters of goods other than seafood that has not been the target for Lufthansa Cargo.
In October 2015, Stavanger Airport saw its cargo volumes, 440 tonnes, up by 88.4 percent compared to October 2014, immediately prior to the launch of the Lufthansa Cargo freighter service.
And during January-October 2015, the airport's cargo volumes are up 80.6 percent, y-o-y, to 3,861 tonnes.
Contributing to the cargo at Stavanger Airport in 2014 was also Qatar Airways Cargo that launched a once-weekly Airbus A330-200F freighter service from Doha on November 3, 2014, but the service was suspended from the start of the summer 2015 schedule and later switching to Oslo Airport that was already a freighter destination for the carrier since January 29, 2013.
