Dec 04, 2015 (newstodate): Following a tender process, Ukraine has awarded a contract to the Spanish company Indra Sistemas for delivery and implementation of a new radar to provide management of air traffic over the Black Sea.
As of today, the Ukrainian radar to monitor the traffic remains located in the Crimea that is now under Russian control.
With the installation of the second radar, Ukraine aims at regaining control over the Black Sea region to win back traffic that is now re-routed to the loss of ATC revenues on the Ukrainian side.
Since the Russian occupation of the Crimea, Eurocontrol has banned European airlines from flying into and over the Crimea, also urging Ukraine to open up a new route without interference with the Russian authorities.
