Feb 13, 2015 (newstodate): The carrier Norwegian is facing problems with Russia over rights to fly through Russian airspace.
Norwegian operates flights on the route between Oslo and Bangkok, but barred from flying through Russian airspace the carrier has to extend its flying time by more than 50 minutes, consuming extra fuel on the route.
The carrier's CEO, Bjorn Kjos, has now approached the Norwegian Ministry of Transportation asking for Norway to take retaliatory measures against Russian carriers now flying through Norwegian airspace on routes to North America.
The Russian refusal to allow Norwegian's overflights constitutes a breach of the air services agreements between the two countries, and the Norwegian state is now to take the issue to Moscow.
