Feb 05, 2015 (newstodate): According to media reports, the TUI Group is mulling plans for merging five of its its individual airlines into one.
While the plan is still only under discussion, with no decision made so far, merging the airlines would boost the Group airlines' purchasing power, bolster the critical mass and lead to lower over-all costs.
Reports name TUI Fly, TUI Fly Nordic, Thomson Airways, Jetairfly and ArkeFly to be merged, while the TUI Group's French carrier Corsair will not be part of the new construction.
Merging the airlines would potentially strengthen the TUI Group carrier's position against low-cost competitors in the market.
With HQs in Sweden, TUI Nordic operates a fleet of eight aircraft including two Boeing 676, with two Boeing 787 aircraft on order - the first of these slated for delivery in Spring 2015.
