Feb 17, 2015 (newstodate): Silk Way West Airlines started operations between Baku, Azerbaijan, and Budapest Airport in March 2014 and has been building up its business ever since.
From the start, the company operated Boeing 767-300F aircraft twice weekly on the route, but already since the end of 2014 the carrier has been using Boeing 747-400F freighters instead, growing the uplift capacity per flight from 53 to 113 tonnes.
The airline offers its services in both directions, supporting both export and import between Budapest and the Caucasian Region, and via Baku, also the Far East, China, and from October 2014, South Korea.
Part of Azerbaijan's Silk Way group comprising 23 companies, Silk Way West Airlines operates a fleet of three 747-400F and two 747-8F aircraft, with three more due for delivery by the end of 2016.
Silk Way Airlines is also known to be in negotiations with Latvia's Riga Airport for establishing a new air cargo logistics center.
