Apr 08, 2015 (newstodate): While the recent solar eclipse darkened the skies over the Faroe Islands on March 20, 2015, the sun did shine on the airport's traffic statistics.
A total of 22,604 passengers passed through the terminal on the Faroe Islands, the highest monthly March total in the history of the airport, and up 47 percent, y-o-y.
Q1, 2015, has thus seen a rise by 16.4 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 50,821 passengers, despite a modest start in January-February where passenger volumes were actually down 0.2 percent, to 28,217 passengers.
The airport has still to release figures for March 2015 on cargo volumes, but indications are that this will also be a new record as volumes in the first two months of this year were up by 54.1 percent, y-o-y, to 102 tonnes while mail was also also up by 4.2 percent to 35 tonnes.
