May 29, 2015 (newstodate): Latvia's transport minister is touring China as head of a business delegation to probe into potentials for enhanced cooperation in sectors including logistics and transportation.
As part of the agenda talks have also included lofty visions of closer cooperation in the aviation business, and this might lead to potential cooperation between the Latvian carrier airBaltic and the Chinese carrier Chengdu Airlines, a subsidiary of Sichuan Airlines that may reportedly result in setting up a direct flight between Riga and Chengdu, the capital of the southwest Chinese province of Sichuan, as a component in China's Silk Road logistics project connecting Asia and Europe.
That would indeed be a significant break-through for both airlines that currently do not operate own intercontinental flights.
