Aug 11, 2015 (newstodate): Contrary to earlier reports, Finnair seems to stick to its route from Helsinki to Samara, in Russia's Volga Region.
The route celebrated its first anniversary on August 7, 2015, and Samara Kurumoch Airport noted encouraging figures in passengers during the first of operation with more than 13,000 passengers traveling on Finnair's 123 flights.
Finnair operates three weekly rotations on the route served with Embraer 190 aircraft, and the company's Russian manager promised that the carrier will continue operating the routes also during the coming winter schedule.
As earlier reported by newstodate, Finnair has decided to close down flights on the route between Helsinki and Nizhniy Novgorod from September 1, 2015, due to low demand in the market.
This route was opened only on July 25, 2014, when Finnair was still seeing growth potentials in the market, and the flight to Nizhniy Novgorod was followed by the opening of flights on the route from Helsinki to Samaras Kurumoch International Airport from August 7, and to Kazan International Airport from August 18, 2014 - all served with three weekly rotations using Embraer E90 aircraft operated on behalf of Finnair by Flybe Finland.
Finnair will now suspend services to Kazan during the coming winter schedule until March 2016, retaining flights to only four destinations in Russia - Moscow, St Petersburg, Samara and Yekaterinburg.
