Jan 08, 2016 (newstodate): With only two month with cargo growth in 2015, Estonia's Tallinn Airport ended with a decline in total volumes by 18.7 percent, y-o-y.
A total of 16,156 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled at the airport, including 14,294 tonnes of cargo and 1,762 tonnes of mail.
The bulk of the airport's cargo was import cargo that fell sharply by 23 percent, y-o-y, to 11,790 tonnes, while exports were also down by 5.9 percent to 2,604 tonnes.
The airport found more consolation in the figures on passenger throughput in 2015, where the volume grew by 7.4 percent, y-o-y, to 2,166,663 passengers, making 2015 the airport's second-best year ever.
The airport now expects a moderate two percent increase in passenger volumes in 2016, and a range of project will be launched to improve the infrastructure including an extension of the runway, and the expansion of the passenger terminal to increase the capacity of the aviation security area.
