Mar 30, 2016 (newstodate): While the start-up date for the Iranian carrier Mahan Air's coming new flights from Tehran to Copenhagen has been set for June 9, 2016, the planned flights to Stockholm, earlier set for launch on June 2, 2016, still seem unsettled.
On March 23, 2016, the Swedish CAA approved Mahan Air's application for rights to launch traffic between Tehran and Stockholm Arlanda from this summer schedule referring to normal procedures and technical requirements, but the Swedish government has the final say on the issue.
-The Swedish Transport Agency has thus concluded the issue and approved Mahan Air's summer traffic program 2016 for flights between Stockholm and Tehran, and we are not involved beyond this, says Annica Jardmark, Swedish Transport Agency Advisor, in a phone talk with newstodate.
Behind the uncertainty shrouding the fate of the planned operation is probably pressure by the USA on states negotiating flight operations with Mahan Air, considered by the USA to be illegally transporting military and other commodities to Baghdad despite sanctions imposed.
