May 11, 2016 (newstodate): Finnair is seeing a healthy growth in cargo volumes in 2016.
In April 2016, the increase in the total cargo carried was 24.8 percent, y-o-y, to 12,771 tonnes including 11,085 tonnes on scheduled passenger flights, up 20.9 percent, and 1,687 tonnes on freighters, up 58.1 percent.
Cargo on the crucial Asian flights was up 20.1 percent to 8,055 tonnes, while European loads were up 19 percent to 2,190 tonnes and cargo on N American flights was also up by 44.1 percent to 692 tonnes.
During the first four months of 2015, the carrier lifted 45,702 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 12.4 percent, with the Asian loads accounting for 28,879 tonnes, up 12.7 percent.
In addition to belly capacity on passenger flights, Finnair's total freight capacity includes two weekly freighter flights between Helsinki and Brussels and one freighter flight shared with IAG between Helsinki and London, both operated by DHL.
In addition, Finnair Cargo also signed a contract with its oneworld partner Japan Air Lines comprising sale of all capacity on this carrier's four weekly Boeing 787 rotations since March 2013 on the route between Tokyo Narita and Helsinki Vaanta Airport in cooperation with Finnair.
