May 02, 2016 (newstodate): In April 2016, Denmark's Billund Airport saw growth returning in cargo volumes.
A total of 5,511 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, which was an increase by 5.1 percent, y-o-y.
Behind the increase was a significant boost by 10 percent in exports that landed at 3,668 tonnes, while imports trailed behind with a drop by 3.4 percent, to 1,843 tonnes.
Summing up the development after the first four months at Billund Airport, total are still down 3.7 percent, y-o-y, to 20,436 tonnes, including 7,322 tonnes of imports, down 1.5 percent, and 13,114 tonnes of exports, still down 4.9 percent.
On the exports side, at least, Billund Airport may see hopes for a sustained increase in volumes after the launch of the Turkish Airlines Cargo freighter from April 10, 2016, offering one weekly flight to Istanbul and already manifesting itself in the statistics after the first month of operation.
