Aug 31, 2016 (newstodate): A new expanded air services agreement has been signed between Luxembourg and Turkmenistan, opening up for more Cargolux flights via Turkmenistan's Ashgabat Turkmenbashi Airport.
The first call by Cargolux to Turkmenbashi International Airport was performed on July 1, 2015, as a stop on the route from Hong Kong to Budapest, Hungary with a Boeing 747-400F aircraft.
Under the existing air services agreement signed in 2015, the carrier can perform up to eight scheduled freighter rotations between Luxembourg and Turkmenistan's Ashgabat Turkmenbashi Airport.
The Turkmen government is however considering raising this volumes to allow for more cargo traffic utilizing Turkmenistan's potential as a cargo hub serving the Central Asian region.
Turkmenistan's president has met with Cargolux' Exec VP in Germany, and Cargolux has declared its interest in doubling the volume of weekly rotations through Ashgabat Turkmenbashi Airport on flights between Luxembourg and Asian destinations.
