Aug 09, 2016 (newstodate): Sky Greenland has signed a lease-purchase contract for two Fokker 50 aircraft.
The aircraft, formerly operated by the now-defunct Belgian carrier VLM Airlines, are currently undergoing a technical appraisal after which they will be placed on the AOC of Denim Air, since January 2016 owned by Sky Greenland.
-The aim is to introduce these two Fokker 50 aircraft on a domestic route network in Greenland, and in the strategy is both passenger and cargo operations, says Gert Brask, owner of Sky Greenland.
-The launch date of our new domestic services in Greenland has not yet been fixed as we want everything to in place before making any announcement. But we are certainly going to enter the market in Greenland to prove that domestic flights can indeed be operated profitably without state subsidies, says Mr Brask.
According to Mr Brask, the aircraft may be operated even at Greenland's smaller airports, albeit with a weight penalty in some cases.
