Jan 19, 2017 (newstodate): Since July 1, 2014, all three international airports of Lithuania have been consolidated within one single juridical entity, State Enterprise Lithuanian Airports - and 2016 proved to be a record year as to passenger figures.
A total of l4.8 million passengers was served, and the number of flights reached 52,000 which represented the largest volume so far.
The greatest increase was demonstrated by the smallest of the three international airport, Palanga Airport where the number of passengers surged by 60 percent, y-o-y, to 233,000, securing the airport the position as the most rapidly growing airport in the category of ERA "small" airports.
The country's capital airport at Vilnius generated a total of 3.8 million passengers, which was 14 percent up on 2015, while Kaunas Airport Kaunas Airport remained stable with 741,000 passengers in 2016.
During the winter season 17 airline companies operate flights from the Lithuanian Airports on 59 routes to 50 cities in 26 countries.
