Jan 31, 2017 (newstodate): To look for growth in passenger volumes at airports in the Baltic region, Estonia's Tartu stands out in 2016.
The airport saw growth in passenger volumes at no less than 40 percent, y-o-y, albeit from a low base with 29,594 passengers.
Tartu Airport owes its success to one airline - Finnair that alone generated 29,311 passengers in 2016 on the route served seven times per week between Tartu and Helsinki.
From October 30, 2011, Flybe started operating on behalf of Finnair on the route Helsinki-TartuHelsinki, but on May 01, 2015, Finnair took over the route, with the Finnish commuter airline, Nordic Regional Airlines, NoRRA as the operator.
Tartu Airport has one 1,799 m runway and completed construction of a new passenger terminal by the end of August 2016.
