Jan 24, 2017 (newstodate): The future of the Danish carrier and capacity provider Cimber is to rest in Irish hands, as CityJet is to take over the carrier from SAS.
Already cooperating with SAS, CityJet is to acquire Cimber from the SAS Group including its 11 CRJ900 aircraft, and at the same time the two parties have entered a new agreement for CityJet to operate a number of regional SAS routes.
CityJet is already operating for SAS under a wet-lease contract to be extended and requiring CityJet to add another 10 new CRJ900 aircraft beyond the 12 aircraft already on the wet-lease contract with SAS.
In February 2015, SAS acquired Cimber that was established May 15, 2012, after the bankruptcy of Cimber Sterling earlier same month.
In October 2015, CityJet also acquired all shares in the former SAS group's Finnish subsidiary Blue1.
