Oct 24, 2017 (newstodate): The final outcome of the search for a strategic investor to acquire the 80 percent state-owned shares in the Latvian carrier airBaltic is still expected before the end of 2017.
Talks have been conducted with a number of airlines, but none of them seems to be shortlisted as eventual partner for airBaltic.
Speaking to a Latvian TV channel, the country's prime minister now says that talks with global carriers have all ended without result as they either would buy only to block against competitors, or use airBaltic as a small local subsidiary to their own purposes.
This indicates that the future of airBaltic is rather to continue building up its strength on its own, combined with Latvia's sustained efforts to build Riga Airport into an efficient airport offering increasing business opportunities for airBaltic and other carriers.
It remains airBaltic's aim to find a strategic partner that allows the carrier to continue along its strong growth path.
