Oct 23, 2017 (newstodate): The process for finding new investors to take ownership of the Latvian carrier airBaltic seems to be close to reaching a conclusion.
Today, the Latvian state holds 80 percent of the shares in the airline while the other major investor, the Danish national Lars Thuesen holds the remaining 20 percent.
Latvia's State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Kaspars Ozolins now says in an interview that the state may let go of its entire stake in the airline, freeing it to be taken over by a strategic partner among interested airlines.
The Latvian state has reportedly completed a period of contacts with a wide range of potential airline and investor partners ending by November this year, after which will follow a period of assessment of proposals for the Latvian government to scrutiny.
It has earlier been stated that a final decision on airBaltic's future strategic investor will be made before the end of this year.
