Oct 06, 2017 (newstodate): More details are now out concerning the new flights by SAS at western Denmark's Aarhus Airport.
The carrier will be offering flights to five destinations Oslo and Stockholm as well as Mallorca, Munich, and Split, with flights to Split and Mallorca on seasonal basis only.
The routes from Aarhus to Oslo in Norway, Stockholm Arlanda in Sweden and to Munich will be operated with CRJ900 aircraft, while flights to the two seasonal destinations will be operated with Airbus A321neo.
Oslo will have 11 weekly rotations, Stockholm Arlanda will have six, and Munich will have one daily rotation.
The two seasonal routes will have two weekly rotations probably mainly targeting the tour operators.
Responding to the launch of SAS' new services the current operator of the routes from Aarhus to Oslo and Stockholm, the BA-franchise carrier SUN-AIR will be pulling out, leaving SAS to compete against itself for passengers currently flying on SAS routes from another Western Denmark-airport, Billund Airport that has SAS flights to Oslo and Stockholm, and Aalborg Airport in the north of the Jutland peninsula that also has SAS flights to Oslo.
Providing SAS with CRJ900 flights is the Irish carrier CityJet already operating for SAS under a wet-lease contract to be extended and requiring CityJet to add another 10 new CRJ900 aircraft beyond the 12 aircraft already on the wet-lease contract with SAS.
