Oct 31, 2017 (newstodate): Politicians' renewed interference in the tender process to appoint a concessionaire to manage the commercial activities of Lithuania's three airports has again stalled the process.
The plan was to launch the tender in this year's 4th quarter, but this was shelved already earlier this autumn.
After last year's election, the new government decided to look into the project to asses potential alternate options, and this will require anything between six months and a full year.
As one significant novelty pushing a solution into an insecure future is the government's intention to analyze an option of a green field airport in Lithuania.
Since July 1, 2014, all three state-owned international airports in Lithuania - Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga - have been under unified management as one Plc, the state enterprise Lithuanian Airports, with Gediminas Almantas as CEO.
Mr Gediminas is however leaving this position by the end of February 2018 while remaining as member of the Board.
