Nov 14, 2017 (newstodate): The Danish charter and ACMI carrier DAT, Danish Air Transport, is in the market for acquisition of an Airbus A320 Family aircraft.
The carrier has entrusted the UK-based aircraft leasing company Airstream with sourcing of an Airbus A319 or A320 aircraft to enter service with DAT by spring 2018.
-The aircraft will be allocated to serving specific customers that have accepted the choice of an Airbus A319 while preferring the A320 offering more capacity. The A320 is much in demand but sparse in supply while the is an over-supply of the A319 aircraft in the market, says Jesper Rungholm, DAT CEO and owner.
-The aircraft will operate out of Aalborg Airport for Primo Tours, and out of Copenhagen Airport on contracts with various tour operators.
-With this coming new aircraft, DAT will again be operating a fleet of five Airbus A320 Family aircraft as well as eight ATR 42 and 72 aircraft, including one in freighter version, and one McDonnell MD83 aircraft.
-The MD83 is indeed an ageing aircraft but it is actually operated at same seat costs as the Airbus aircraft due to low maintenance and low aircraft spare costs offsetting a higher fuel consumption.
-On the negative side is an unfavorable airport noise foot-print as well as high cabin noise levels in the back end of the aircraft. Anyway, the aircraft will stay with us and is not on the sales list, says Mr Rungholm.
