Nov 27, 2017 (newstodate): Boeing has now completed the first conversion into freighter of the Boeing 737-800.
The aircraft was converted at the Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services, in China, and will be delivered to the launch customer of the new freighter conversion program, the Swedish/UK cargo carrier West Atlantic's new facility at East Midlands, in the UK.
Expectations are that the aircraft will attain FA certification in December 2017 and delivered to West Atlantic in February 2018.
Three more Boeing 737-800BCF aircraft so far ordered and leased from GECAS will follow in August and November 2018, and February 2019.
The Boeing 737-800 Converted Freighter will be equipped with CFM56-7B engines, and will carry up to 23.9 tonnes of cargo with 12 main deck positions over 2,000 nautical miles.
-The Boeing 737-800BCF will be an enabler for us to make a leap in reliability, capacity, and ability to expand in areas of the world away from our traditional markets, such as Asia, West Atlantic's CEO Frederic Groth told newstodate in June 2017.
