Nov 21, 2017 (newstodate): Kazakhstan's leading carrier Air Astana is poised to be come the leading operator of A320neo Family aircraft in the CIS markets.
The airline is the first operator of this type in the region from 2016 and the fleet will grow to 17 aircraft by 2020,including six A320neo, seven A321neo and four A321LRneo aircraft.
All aircraft will be acquired on an operating lease basis in accordance with agreements that were signed for 11 aircraft in 2015 and six aircraft in 2017.
The A320neo and A321neo will be operated on domestic and medium haul destinations, while the A321LRneo will be deployed on long-range services from Almaty and Astana to destinations in Asia and Europe.
The new aircraft will also allow Air Astana to develop new routes to destinations in the CIS and South Asia.
Set up in 2001, Air Astana, was a staunch Boeing operator but became the 10th Airbus aircraft operator in the CIS by signing a lease agreement for five A320 aircraft in 2006 when it was operating a fleet comprising one Boeing-737-800, two Boeing 737-700, three Boeing 757-200, and five Fokker-50 aircraft.
