Nov 09, 2017 (newstodate): Russia's new green-field airport Rostov-on-Don Platov Airport has now received Rosaviatsiya's approval for the official opening on November 27, 2017.
The new airport features an ICAO category II, 3600m x 45m runway, an apron with 45 aircraft spaces and an apron for cargo operations.
Rostov-on-Don Platov Airport has been built for the 2018 World Cup and aims for a role in connecting flights between Asia, the CIS and Europe.
The new airport will become a hub of a new Russian regional carrier Azimuth Airlines that will provide domestic flights in Russia's south region.
Now handling 2.3 mio passengers a year, the existing Rostov-on-Don Airport has exceeded its passenger capacity, and due to its location in the city center has limited potential for expansion.
The airport will be decommissioned on March 1, 2018.
