Nov 08, 2017 (newstodate): The Polish government has now approved plans for construction of a new airport to relieve pressure on the current capital airport, Warsaw Chopin Airport.
The facility, to be located in central Poland between Warsaw and Lodz, will be capable of servicing up to 100 million passengers per year.
Poland's Warsaw Chopin Airport will hit the capacity ceiling in 2020, with no further space for expansion.
LOT has already warned that this will be a threat to the carrier's sustained development, and construction of a replacement to the existing airport will be needed.
When the proposed new airport is commissioned, Warsaw Chopin Airport will be closed down.
