Nov 17, 2017 (newstodate): Armenia's Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport is seeing passenger and cargo volumes rising in 2017 - but official statistics are puzzling...
As reported by newstodate on October 5, official statistics for the period January-September 2017 showed the handling of 1,922,183 passengers, an increase by 24 percent, y-o-y.
Cargo volumes in the period were also reported to be steeply up by no less than 49.7 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 17,183 tonnes - a figure immediately disputed by an international air cargo professional with intimate market knowledge, contacting newstodate.
But - according to fresh figures from Armenia's General Department of Civil Aviation, passenger volumes during the period January-October 2017 were up 22.7 percent to 2,154,092 - while cargo volumes during the first 10 months of the year were up 42.2 percent, y-o-y, to "only" 910 tonnes.
To clarify the issue, newstodate has approached Mr Sergey Avetisyan, Director General at General Department of Civil Aviation of the Republic of Armenia, for a comment.
