Dec 01, 2017 (newstodate): The Latvian charter and ACMI carrier SmartLynx will add three more aircraft to its fleet.
Adding to the current fleet comprising 12 Airbus A320 and one Airbus A321 will be new deliveries of two Airbus A320 and one A321 aircraft, bringing the fleet total to 16 aircraft, and the further aim is to grow the fleet to 18 aircraft by the end of 2018.
With a growing fleet needs also arise for recruiting more cockpit and cabin crews, but the availability of pilots is a challenge for the world's airlines as demands for air travel is soaring.
As one remedy, SmartLynx Pilot Training Organization providing type rating courses for Airbus A320 family aircraft is increasing its student intake by 80 percent, and around half of the graduates can expect to be offered steady job opportunities at SmartLynx Airlines.
On an average, SmartLynx takes in 35-40 students each year to satisfy its needs for flight crews.
After completion of the courses, most graduates around 90 percent in recent years stay with SmartLynx Airlines, and every year two or three First Officers move to the starboard seat in the cockpit.
