Dec 21, 2017 (newstodate): The Syrian government is fighting for a return to normality in civil aviation.
As one step, the Syrian Ministry of Transport has now applied to the EU Commission for lifting of the sanctions imposed since July 23, 2012, on its national carrier Syrian Air.
Syrian hopes are thus to gain access for a return of services on routes to Europe as well as reopening of the Syrian airspace for transit flights.
Syria has also unveiled preliminary plans for construction of a new international airport near Damascus.
