As part of this, the Chinese conglomerate JD.COM is planning to establish 150 specialized airports to handling of a fleet of drones in the delivery service.
According to Xinhua News, one such airport in the Shaanxi province will be built for large and medium-sized drones that can deliver shipments to customers within a range of 300 km.
According to JD.COM, the coming new network of drone airports will be built in the country's Sichuan province which will allow for same-day deliveries throughout China and a reduction of distribution costs by up to 70 percent.
So far, the Chinese drones can carry shipments up to 50 kg, but new models will grow the capacity to up to 500 kg!
