Apr 07, 2017 (newstodate): The Czech Republic's Prague Airport is planing for new projects to meet the increase in traffic over the coming years.
The airport's current handling capacity is 15 mio passengers, and already in 2016 the passenger through-put was 13 mio, while the airport now expect an increase in 2017 by eight percent and a further 3.4 percent annual growth over the next 20 years.
The airport has therefore launched a comprehensive program to expand the capacity to 17 mio passengers in 2020 in a first phase, including construction of new security positions, bagage sorting area and check-in facilities as well as a new taxiway infrastructure to allow for faster exit from the runway.
Further ahead, plans are to build a second passenger terminal and a second runway allowing for handling of up to 21 mio passenger annually, with further future projects to lift the ceiling to 28 mio passengers.
