Apr 19, 2017 (newstodate): The Estonian carrier Nordica needs more aircraft capacity to build more traffic and secure back-up capacity.
To boost the carrier's development, the state-owned company Transpordi Varahaldus that performs the role as capacity provider to Nordica has requested a loan from the Estonian bank LHV to acquire two Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft to be placed on a lease agreement with Nordica.
One of these coming new aircraft will enter service on Nordica's own route network while the second aircraft will be deployed on routes served by Nordica's strategic partner, the Polish carrier LOT.
With the addition of the two CRJ900 aircraft, one of two CRJ700 aircraft will be dedicated to serving mainly as a back-up capacity to bolster the carrier's regularity.
The first new CRJ900 aircraft is slated for delivery by June and the second by July 2017, and both aircraft will be in commercial service with Nordica by August 2017.
In Nordica's fleet are now four CRJ900, two CRJ700 and one EMbraer 145 aircraft.
Transpordi Varahaldus was set up in September 2015 by the Estonian state alongside Nordic Aviation Group to cover up for the expected grounding of Estonian Air following a negative outcome of the EU probe, which was announced on November 7, 2015, leading to the immediate stop of Estonian Air flights from November 8.
Nordic Aviation was founded on September 25, 2015 by the decision of the Estonian Government, and performed its first flight on November 8, 2015, as Estonian Air was grounded.
